Approaching its 46th year, Christmas on the River is an annual week-long celebration held in Demopolis, AL.
The original Christmas on the River event took place in 1972, when a night parade featuring floats and riverboats sailed down the Tombigbee River at White Bluff, followed by a fireworks show. After the success of the first event, the celebration continued each year, growing to include more exciting events and spectacles each year.
Today, the week-long Christmas on the River event begins with a performance by local theatrical group, the Canebrake Players. Additional events include:

Christmas in Canebrake, an annual Christmas party is held at Bluff Hall, Gaineswood and Lyon Hall, three of Demopolis’s historic antebellum homes on the even before the finale.
